San Agustinillo and around: Mazunte
Mazunte is a small beach town 1km from San Agustinillo. Here, we went to visit the ''Centro Mexicano of the Tortuga'' or ''National Mexican Turtle Centre''. This museum also a turtle research center and turtle nursery, opened to the public in 1994 after the Mexican government decided to ban completely and permanently the exploitation of sea turtles. This was the main local activity of the village. The Centre possesses too an animal health area.
- This baby turtle was waiting to be released into the sea. One of the activity of the Centre is to collect the unburied turtle eggs, incubate them and grow the baby turtles until they are big enough to be released in the water,
- This marine turtle was spending her time swimming in the water tank. Unfortunately for her, a stomach problem {which could not be fixed} was stopping her to dive and she was floating at the surface. The main species of turtles found around Mazunte is the Golfina characterised by a green olive shell,
- These two yellow wood turtles were taking the sun after a bath. I can't blame them!
- Mazunte beach. Nice turquoise clear water and white sand...
