Campeche - photos 2

Campeche:

We rented bikes for a morning and went to visit the San Miguel bastion, some kilometers away from the historic centre. We did not go to visit the fort of San Jose as we have been told by a guard that it was in a dodgy area. It was damn hot and we could not go up to the slope with our bikes.

San Miguel fort with San Jose fort were protecting the town from nearby hills on each side. They were built before the walls of the city. San Miguel fort is now a museum for pre-Hispanic civilizations. The fort of San Jose houses a collection of boats and weapons of the period.

- Ready for the ride...Lee had a nice bike but because I am smaller, it is difficult for me to find good bikes so I usually ride the rubbish ones...
- The fort of San Miguel, just in front of the sea,
- This canon looks ready to send a bullet to this ship...but the ship is a touristic /restaurant boat and the canon is too old to work...
- View of Campeche and the sea front from the fort.
