Misol-Ha and Agua Azul waterfalls:
From the ruins, we headed off to Misol-Ha and Agua Azul waterfalls situated at ~30Km from Palenque.
Misol-Ha, meaning 'Streaming Water' in the "Chol" tribe area of Chiapas, is a 35m waterfall falling down into a deep pool of water {reported to be up to 10m of depth}. It is possible to swim but being very careful and the water is cold. So we did not have a swim!
The Agua Azul waterfall, as the name indicates, has beautiful turquoise waters. The river Xumul-Ha (meaning River of Blue Water, or in Spanish, Agua Azul) features a series of torrential cascades and fast flowing waters rolling down a limestone ridge to form pools where it is possible to swim but not to close to the rocks. The limestone bed gives the waters here a turquoise-blue effect. Lee had a swim in the superb pools but the water was too cold for me so I took pictures.
- Misol-Ha waterfall surrounded by a luxurious vegetation...
- ...and Lee was happy to have the best photos,
- View of the Agua Azul river from the highest mirador platform. The river drops over a series of waterfalls and runs off into the distance...
-...and close view of the waterfalls,
- Superb turquoise waters, a real pleasure for the eyes, absolutely amazing,
- Lee could not wait to have a swim in these little pools taking care of course to not approaching to closely the edge of the waterfall.
