Parque Nacional de Cerro Cora (East of Paraguay)

As Lee wanted to have a boat experience, we were thinking taking the local boat from Asuncion to Concepcion on the Rio Paraguay. However, we should have waited until Wednesday for the boat and reading people comments on internet did not encourage us finally to wait. Instead. we decided to visit the National Park of Cerro Cora, North East of the country then to go to Concepcion. We took the bus to Pedro Juan de Caballero which is a border town with Brasil and where we stayed only for one night. For the evening meal, we tried the only restaurant open in this town and we had the best hamburger so far. Lee choose the "Supreme" and the burger was at least 10cm high! Massive and for low cost! Good bargain and good night too!!!
The National Park of Cerro Cora is covering 12ha and it is full of historical data as it was the place of the last battle of the Triple Alliance War (1864-1870) which I mentioned in an earlier post. Here, the Marshal Francisco Solano Lopez and then president of Paraguay died and he is buried in the Pantheon of the Heroes in Asuncion. We spent our time walking in the park, looking for animals that we never found!!! Goodbye tortoises, parrots and monkies...only one iguana, one massive cicada (or grasshopper) and 20 pecaris crossing the path 5 meters in front of us!! But and probably hopefully we missed the jaguar or other wild cats but we did not miss the mosquitos even covered with 2 layers of mosquitos repellent!! We spent the night in the Park in a building annexed to the park's keeper building. The place was very rudimentary with only 30years old and 5 cm deep mattresses, a cold shower (place of countless bugs!) and a kitchen that should have required 20bottles of MrMuscles to clean!!! But it was a very good time and the park' keepers were very friendly. Next direction Concepcion....

Comme Lee voulait faire du bateau, nous pensions prendre le bateau local d'Asuncion pour rejoindre Concepcion par le fleuve Paraguay. Mais nous aurions du attendre jusqu'a mercredi pour le bateau et apres la lecture de conmmentaires de gens sur internet ca ne nous a pas encourage a attendre le bateau. Nous decidames plutot de visiter le Parc National de Cerro Cora, nord-est du pays puis d'aller a Concepcion. Nous primes le bus pour Pedro Juan de Caballero qui est a la fronitere avec le Bresil et ou nous restames seulement une nuit. Pour le repas du soir, nous avons essaye le seul restaurant ouvert dans cette ville et nous mangames le meilleur hamburger!! Lee choisit le "Supreme" et le hamburger faisait au moins 10cm de haut! Enorme et pour pas cher!! Bonne affaire et bonne nuit aussi!!!
Le Parc National de Cerro Cora recouvre 12Ha et a un long passe historique parce qu'il fut le lieu de la derniere bataille de la guerre de la Triple Alliance (1864-1870) que j'ai mentionnee plus tot dans un message. Nous avons passe notre temps a marcher dans le parc, cherchant des animaux que nous n'avons jamais trouves. Adieux tortues, perroquets, singes...seulement un iguane, une cigale enorme et 20 pecaris traversant le chemin 5metres devant nous!! Mais et probablement heureusement nous avons rate le jaguar et les autres fauves mais pas les moustiques meme avec 2 couches de produit anti-moustique! Nous passames la nuit au parc dans un batiment annexe au batiement des gardes du parc. Le lieu etait tres rudimentaire avec seulement des matellas de 5cm d'epaisseur et vieux de 30ans, une douche froide (avec pleins d'insectes) et une cuisine qui aurait du demander 20 bouteilles de MrMuscle pour nettoyer! Mais nous passames du bon temps et les gardes du parc etaient tres sympa.
