Quito:
- Church and convent of San Francisco founded in 1536 and occupying more than 3.5hectares. Unfortunately, the church was being restored so was closed and the museum was also closed for the festive period. No luck also with the main churches and convents of the city closed for the same reasons!
- As I mentioned in a previous post, Ecuador' s tradition for the New Year's Eve is to burn big dolls or puppets made from newspapers and old clothes. In the streets of the north west district, dozens of them could be found. Also masks of lots of different characters and monsters could be bought for the walk in the Rio Amazonas Avenue during the evening of the 31th,
- Avenue Rio Amazonas was the scene for dozens of giant puppet representations with political messages. In this picture, the government of the Pinchicha Province was promoting its action for improving literacy of young children,
- Representation of Ecuadorian and South American political characters with various messages (not possible to read them totally),
- The twelve rings of the bells have started and people on the street are burning their "muneca" or doll or also called "anos viejos" or "old years". This tradition is to bury the old year in the aim of starting the new one.
