Panajachel:
We headed off to Panajachel the Monday after the Palm Sunday. Here also very touristic but Panajachel is a charming town situated on the shore of the lake Atitlan. Founded during the 16th Century by the Spanish and was used as a centre to convert the indigenous population to the catholic religion. Now it is a strategic point used by tourists to visit the Lake Atitlan, the deepest lake in Central America.
- The volcano San Pedro. During our stay in Panajachel, only one day was clear of haze and we could take nice pictures of the 3 volcanoes surrounding the lake,
- Volcanoes Toliman (in front) and Atitlan, still active even if the last eruption is dated from 1853,
- Sunset on the Lake,
- I like this picture of this dog. If you have a close look to the picture (or copy and zoom), you can see the dog smiling with his eyes not looking at me. I am sure he knew he was taken in picture and was playing the star. And what a hair-cut!!! It is like if he put tons of hair gel to have his hair standing up like that!!! Superb!
- At 20min walking from Panajachel, we went to visit the Atitlan Natural Reserve. This reserve is home to monkeys, a butterfly farm, trails, zip-lines, camping...The trails were easy to follow and it was necessary to cross a series of bridges like this one to reach the top of the hill which offered nice view of the lake,
- We saw 2 monkeys in the park. The guide book mentioned lots of monkeys!! Obviously, as soon as there are more than one monkey, there are lots!!! We stay watching them long enough to see one of them having a swing and fun on a branch. Please see the video for a good laugh!!
