El Remate - photos 1

El Remate:

We moved to El Remate after Flores as the views of the lake were supposed to be nice.

Arriving at El Remate, we found that this small village had only one road, the main road which connects Santa Elena to Tikal. Only a couple of hostels, restaurants and tiny shops were situated on the main road. More restaurants and hotels were available close to the lake but prices were out of our budget.

We went to vist the Biotopo Cerro Cahui, obviously during the middle of the day where there is the most heat!! Nice miradors and a couple of birds. To relax, with the sunset, we had a nice walk around the lake. We went also to visit the Mayan ruins of Tikal (see future post).

- But what was Lee doing? ...
- Hopefully for him, he managed to avoid the spikes of this tree. Obviously, this was all arranged! Lots of trees in this park had very sharp spikes...good sense of defense from these trees!
- A nice picture, a dragonfly and we know how difficult it is to take then in picture. But lots of patience is paying off!
- View of the Peten Lake (with some haze) from the mirador in the park.
