Antigua Guatemala - photos 2

Antigua:

We attended the procession "Viernes de Dolores" or "Friday of Pains", the Friday just before Palm Sunday. The procession commemorates the pains of the Virgen Mary and is a kids procession in Antigua. The little girls are wearing normally white dresses with lace mantillas. The boys are wearing purple tunics.

- This little girl was happy to be photographed. She was smiling when I told her she was very pretty,
- Little girls (around 5 years old) were carrying this portable platform of the Virgen, with the help of an adult of course! Looks heavy for these little girls!
- The boys were carrying a most imposing portable platform of the Christ. On each side of the road, the parents were giving sweets, ice-creams...to their children. The procession was more a holiday march and by the end little organization was remaining! I can't blame them!
- For the celebration of the Holy Week and especially of the Palm Sunday, groups of locals were selling bouquets in front of the church La Merced. No palm leaves here but bouquets made with dried flowers and artificial leaves,
- A local woman was preparing a bouquet of flowers. She is wearing the typical costume of this part of the country.
