San Blas Islands (Panama):
To reach Panama, we had three options: a) sailing from Cartagena to San Blas Islands in Panama then join Panama City, b) flying from Medellin or Bogota to Panama City, c) crossing the frontier by land. The last option was impossible as there is no road connecting the 2 countries (tropical forest full of dangers). We were thinking sailing from the beginning of our trip and even if the price was expensive ($385), that was the most exciting option. Well not really for me as I am usually sick on boats!! That was a 4 days trip with all meals included.
We arrived Tuesday morning first followed by Paddy, an Irish motorcyclist whose motorbike was already on board. Then, Julien, a Belgian guy with Olivier and Harold 2 French guys joined us. Good to see that I will be talking a little of French during the trip! Then Kerry and Sam, a couple from Southampton arrived followed by Micha, from Ukraine but living in the US, Marina and Pedro, a Brasilian couple in their honeymoon and finally with 20 min of delay our 2 hostal friends Dave and Neil!!! That was the group who was doing the trip with us. I was very nervous when we boarded because I knew I could expect 1 or 2 bad days on sea. The wind was strong and in February, lots of small boats connecting Colombia to Panama are on holidays because of the bad sea. But no chance to turn back now...
So we said Bye Bye to Colombia where we spent a very good time. We were expecting staying 2 weeks but finally we spent 6 weeks in this superb country, full of very friendly people and of nice places to see (with no issue at all with the safety). Celine, could you please tell Jack that his country is the best country we have visited in South America (except with Bolivia for the beautiful and varied landscapes). We really fell in love with Colombia and we will definitively come back to see more and I will recommend anyone to spend 2 or 3 weeks of their holidays to discover this amazing country!
- My last picture of Cartagena, the Bocagrande district with its high buildings. That was Tuesday 11am,
- My last picture on board before joining our cabin. It was 1pm and I was not feeling great at all especially after eating a big sandwich (the French guys told me that it is better on sea with a full stomach!). The big sandwich did not stay too long in my stomach anyway!!
- My first picture on board after the boat had stopped. It was Wednesday 10.30am!!! I had spent quite 24hrs sick in the cabin but with a lady like manner, no spillage anywhere with Lee holding my hair back! This island was the closest to where we stayed for a couple of days. The weather was not great with lots of clouds and wind,
- Our boat seen from the island. A sailing boat built in 1911!
- During our stay, the group was playing jumping from the boat. Harold (in the picture) won the competition with a fabulous swing face plant! But Micha won the best jump from the yardarm of the boat. Please check the video.
